Meet The Staff

Hello! I’m Miriam and I’m Training and Development Officer for Ballyhoura Community Radio. I am responsible for all things training from microphone techniques to helping you pick some music for your show! At BCR we aim to give you the tools and training to communicate with your community.

Likes: asparagus, David Bowie, knitting, gigs, baking cookies, dying my hair ridiculous colours (predominantly purple), hats, cats, cats in hats and Coronation Street.

Dislikes: raisins, instant coffee, wearing glasses, rain, tracksuit bottoms and the word ‘moist’.

Originally from Kilcorney in north Cork, now living in Dromahane, just outside Mallow. I have a keen interest in country music both Irish & American. I am a keen rugby and Hurling fan and enjoy a good suspense thriller film. My main responsibility at the station is securing advertising sales and in my spare time I frequently present the “More than Music” for BCR.

More Than Music is an in depth exploration of one particular artiste/Band or album per week. I write and present it as a two part structure rolled into one. A brief biography to make listeners more aware of the singer and a cross selection of music to chart a singers career. Hopefully people will find this formula a little more interesting than just playing music

Hello my name is Anna Howard. I have been living in North Cork now for over three years. I originally come from Laois, but have lived in London for over 30 years. I returned to Ireland in 2007 My husband comes from North West Cork just outside the village of Knocknagree. I have one son. My interests are music, reading, films and theatre.

I am delighted to be involved with Ballyhoura Community Radio. I love the idea of radio for the local people. I enjoy meeting the volunteers as they come into the studio to present their various shows, I try to listen to the radio as much as I can at the weekends. I work as book-keeper/ administrator. I also present the occasional music show, and hope to get more involved as time goes by.

Hi! My name is Nessan Kavanagh and I am at the Technical Officer here at Ballyhoura Community Radio. It is my job to make sure that all the studio equipment and software is working as it should and when I have a spare minute I maintain the station website! I also work closely with our volunteers and produce several programmes including Ballyhoura View, World Beat and Local Links.

I’ve been involved with BCR since the end of 2008, initially as a volunteer, and I would encourage anybody with an interest in radio to come along to visit us and get involved! You won’t regret it. I certainly don’t!
